Family Life Education offers an all inclusive 5 week series that covers:
- Labor and Delivery
- Postpartum Care
- Tour of OB Unit and Discussion of Unit Policies
- Pain Relief Options/Epidural Anesthesia
- Overview of Relaxation Techniques and Breathing
- Infant Care and Car Seat Safety
- Breastfeeding
- Infant CPR
Class Sessions 1-3
CHILDBIRTH PREPARATION CLASSES
These classes are recommended for all women giving birth at Major Hospital. Classes are designed for first time mothers-to-be and their labor support persons. However, if it has been more than five years since your last pregnancy, we recommend taking this series. Classes are 6:30 - 9 p.m. and may let out early depending on content and class participants.
Class Session 4
BREASTFEEDING BASICS CLASS
Breastfeeding is the best way to provide nourishment to your child. This class covers breastfeeding basics to help make breastfeeding a success for you and your child. Your spouse and/or support person is encouraged to attend with you. A certified breastfeeding educator teaches the class. If you are not planning to breastfeed, this class is optional. It is highly recommended to those who want to breastfeed or for those who would like more information regarding breastfeeding. Class is 6:30 - 8 p.m.
Class Session 5
EXPECTANT PARENT INFANT CPR
This class is recommended to all parents and their infant care givers and focus is on the steps of CPR and airway obstruction (choking). All participants will receive an American Heart Association Class completion card. This is not a certification course. Class is 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
The 2008 child birth preparation series is offered:
- January 2, 9, 16, 22*(Infant CPR), and 23*(Breastfeeding Basics)
- February 5, 12, 19, 26, and 28
- March 5, 12, 19, 26, and 27
- April 3, 10, 17, 24, and 29
- May 6,13,20,27, and 29
- June 4, 11, 18, 24 *(Infant CPR), and 26 *(Breastfeedng Basics)
- July 8, 15, 22, 29, and 31
- August 7, 14, 21, 26, and 28
- September 2, 9, 16, 23, and 25
- October 2, 9, 16, 21, and 23
- November 4, 11, 18, 24, and 25
- December 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30
*When you enroll in a series, you will be enrolled for all the classes listed above
SIBLING CLASS
This Saturday morning class is for big brothers and sisters-to-be ages 3 to 8. Siblings learn about new babies and how to help mom! A tour of the OB unit is also included in this class dependent on unit census. Children are asked to bring a stuffed animal or doll to practice caring for their new sibling. Light breakfast foods will be served.
Classes held 9:30 am - 11 am.

CHILDBIRTH REFRESHER
This class is designed for expectant parents who have had a previous childbirth experience. The format is an overview of labor and delivery. The majority of the class time is spent with open discussion, allowing questions to be answered. A tour of the OB unit will also be offered.

STORK'S NEST
This one-hour appointment allows expectant mothers to pre-register, sign consent form(s) and receive discharge information. This appointment is offered after the mother reaches 35 weeks of pregnancy. Please call (317) 421-3209 for more information or to schedule your appointment.
